and will have a short discussion followed by a drawing studio. All of the
materials will be supplied for the events, and each event will last
approximately two to three hours.

results of “DRAW,” as raw material for making a new work. A materials
budget will be provided. The resulting artifacts of both parts will be
exhibited in a gallery show.

SCHEDULE, PART 01 - DRAW
-------------------------

DAVID SHIELDS - “Writing as Drawing/Drawing as Writing”
- - - - - - -
Thursday, November 3, 6:30pm;
ART 2.208, UT Art Building at 23rd and San Jacinto

A short discussion will focus on the acts of drawing and writing found in
Shaker Gift drawings from the 19th century, Street Graffiti from the late
20th century, as well as established artists including Cy Twombly and
Anselm Kiefer etc. The workshop will involve viewing the physical act of
writing, pen to paper, as an act of drawing. Starting with a small series
of penmanship studies, participants will examine the use of writing
components as recombinant abstract mark making elements.

RACHEL MARTIN – “Drawing as Cinematic Event”
- - - - - - -
Friday, November 11, 6:30pm;
ART 2.208, UT Art Building at 23rd and San Jacinto

Participants will engage in experimental drawing methods that focus on the
physical act of drawing--viewing the body as a device and the physical act
as an event. This workshop will involve working with video projections on
a live model as well as the creation of a collaborative large-scale action
drawing using all parts of the body as drawing tools (be prepared to get
dirty!).

Draw/Re-Draw
Part One: First Three Weeks of November, 2005

Draw/Re-Draw will be an experiment in two parts. Part one, "Draw," will consist of a series of seminars/ workshops, revolving around the activity of drawing, viewed from the perspective of varying disciplines. Each seminar/workshop will have a short discussion component followed by a "making" component, and will be lead by a differnt professot. Part two of the event, "Re-draw," will consist of small interdisciplinary teams who will use the results of part one ("Draw") as raw material for making a new work (for example, a team might take the figure drawings from a workshop to use as generative material to make an animated film). The results will then be exhibited in a gallery show which will document the workshops as well as the final artifacts.
